We met her not far from Dilla town (10 min driving) and interviewed her. She used to go to school until her father told her that he don’t have enough money to send her and her two brothers to school. She wants to continue but she doesn’t have any chance to continue. Her sister got married before she finishes her school at grade 8. Meteke fear that she will have the same fate as her sister, and cried for help to continue on her education.
She got education for three years and stopped, and we tried to talk to her father but he was not home at the time.
This is what Meteke said to me when I asked her what education mean for her; ‘It is everything for me and the future path to my dream’ and tears came out of her eyes. This is one of many Gedeo girls who don’t have the chance to see the light through education.
Education is the key to open the door for development and Sustainable growth!
Why You Support Us?
Africa is mostly known for it under development in every aspect and poverty. It is tragic a continent like Africa with huge potential of both natural resource and human resource keep on surviving by western aid for many years. For the past many decades Africa got aid from western countries, international bodies and individuals in food security, infrastructure construction, health, and different sectors of life.
All these efforts have brought little or no much effect on individual’s life as it supposed. One of the biggest problems was and still is the luck of knowledge. It is better for a person to show how he can produce and support himself/herself. By educating the grass-root of the community the basic modern way of thinking and production we can eradicate poverty. This kind of activity demand genuine development program which has long plan rather than short term plan.
Your support to us will contribute to bring different approach to the poverty reduction of this generation. We are focusing more on supporting girls to get to higher education and take the rightful place in a society.
Our main goals are two:
A. providing a shelter to those girl students: Those who are in need of sheltering to pursue their secondary school education can get place and extra help free of charge. This work is done in collaboration with families taking some of the responsibility. We choose this method to avoid dependency on aid.
B. Facilitating long term sustainability: By facilitating income generating system with the Ethiopia, the work can keep going without any external help from outside.
